Since our first Chamber Music Camp in 2003, we have concentrated our efforts on offering a unique chamber music program, which provides high level instruction in small groups taught by professional musicians and internationally recognized guest ensembles.
In the summer of 2012, the OPUS Chamber Music Camp will mark its 10th year. What began as a program for string players has gradually expanded to include piano, clarinet and flute students, chamber orchestra, and a handbell choir.
In addition to the Chamber Music Camp, OPUS has organized, sponsored, underwritten the costs, and successfully executed numerous projects and programs every year since its inception in 2000. Past events and programs include:
- Support for the local junior high and high school music programs
- OPUS provides accompanists for special concerts
- We organize and sponsor a chamber music workshop with the acclaimed Orion Ensemble
- Performances at the Edward Hospital and Edward Cancer Treatment Center
- Peformances at senior homes: Monarch Landing, Independence Village, and St. Patrick's Senior Residence
- Free performances at local churches: Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Knox Presbyterian Church, and St. Procopius Abbey
- Free chamber music concerts on the Naperville River Walk
- Free concerts at the Morton Arboretum and the Liberal Arts College of Benedictine University
- Collaboration with other music organizations: East Meets West Music Arts, Young Naperville Singers, Sapphyre Strings
- Collaboration with our previous resident ensemble: Cypress Strings
- Involvement with the Wheaton Symphony Orchestra, Naperville Evening Kiwanis Club, Naperville Lions Club, Naperville Sunrise Rotary Club, Naperville Public Library, NCTV, Chinese New Century TV and other local organizations
OPUS has on-going relationships with the Wheaton Symphony Orchestra, Benedictine University, the Healing Arts Program at Edward Hospital, and various professional and community music groups. The outstanding young artist ensembles have been invited to perform in the professional Orion Ensemble concerts, and some students have appeared as soloists with various local symphony orchestras including the DuPage Symphony Orchestra.
