From the Music Director...

The study of music is touted for its value in developing mathematical, coordination, and creative skills. When the music studied is chamber music, communication skills are also fostered, along with teamwork. When that chamber music is played with young persons from very different backgrounds or cultures, then cultural awareness and understanding come into play as well. OPUS is a "breeding ground" for all of these traits.

There is another--deeper--benefit for a young person to spend a week at OPUS working on chamber music, and that is simply "beauty." Spending a week submerged in a well-crafted and expressive piece of "sound art" will inevitably bring the soul to a more lively and positive place....or at least it will plant the seeds of beauty within, ready to bloom more fully in time. The "flowering," I believe, will occur both internally and externally at many points and in many forms throughout life.

By nurturing artistic souls at OPUS, we contribute to a world that will be more beautiful, which in turn fosters more artistry. More beauty in our world will make it a much more livable place for all of us.

The enhancement of life through music and all of its positive developmental benefits for each participant are the reasons why so many people contribute their time, energies, and resources to OPUS. We invite you to be a part of OPUS by donating time and resources as well, and we encourage your young person to come and experience a week of chamber music with us.
